The GDC Online Awards organizers today announced the start of the Audience Award, urging online gamers across the globe to vote for their favorite online game. If you want to make your voice heard, go to gdconlineawards.com to cast your vote.

The Game Developers Choice Online Awards is an annual event honoring the best in online gaming. The winners of the 2012’s GDC Award will be announced later in the fall at the Game Developers Conference in October.

When the nominees for the 2012 GDC Awards were announced in July, Star Wars: The Old Republic netted an unprecedented six nominations. SWTOR is nominated for Best Online Game Design, Best Online Visual Arts, Best Online Technology, Best Audio for an Online Game, Best New Online Game, and Online Innovation Award.

Most of the nominees and winners of the GDC Awards are selected by the International Choice Awards Network; a group of 400 game producers and creators from the online gaming industry. However, the winner of the GDC Online Audience Award is selected by popular vote and anyone with an email account can participate. If you want to cast your vote for the Game Developers Choice Online Audience Award, go to GDC Online Awards for details.

The SWTOR world event Grand Acquisitions Race is now live on the servers. As detailed in the Star Wars: The Old Republic “The Grand Acquisitions Race” YouTube flick, head to Nar Shaddaa to take part in the festivities.

The short flick teaser posted on YouTube by BioWare was released on August 13. It runs for some 90 seconds and includes a Chevin representative interrupting and hijacking a Fox News… I mean Imperial News Network broadcast on the “disturbing activities of the Chevin Conglomerate”.

READ MORE: Future SWTOR content and Game Updates

The Chevin Conglomerate, a dark and shady organization located at the furthest reaches of the Outer Rim, has initiated something of a scavenger hunt, offering “great riches to anyone who brings them rare and unique items.” The Chevin representative, and most of the Grand Acquisitions Race quests, can be found on the Nar Shaddaa promenade. Quests are not limited to Nar Shaddaa but will take you to multiple planets spread across the galaxy.

BioWare has not specified how long the world event will last. If you want to get your hands on some creds and rare quest rewards, head over Nar Shaddaa and participate in the scavenger race before it ends.

UPDATE: The Grand Acquisitions Race event is no longer available

BioWare are winding up for Gamescom. Earlier today we got a sneak peek at an upcoming preview of the new Terror from Beyond Operation, the new Ancient Hypergates Warzone, the new Makeb planet and the new playable race the Cathar.

Earlier in the summer BioWare’s Dr. Ray Muzyka took to the stage at Electronic Arts’ E3 press conference to outline some of the future content to be added in the coming Game Updates. Among other things he revealed the upcoming new HK 51 assassin droid companion, the new planet Makeb, the new Ancient Hypergates warzone, the Terror from Beyond Operation, the new playable species Cathar and a level cap increase. However, he did not outline a release plan for when these features will be added to Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Game Update 1.4 Preview coming soon

At Gamescom this week, SWTOR players will finally get to experience some of the content Dr. Muzyka mentioned way back in June. BioWare has confirmed that the Ancients Hypergates warzone will be playable at the convention. According to a press release by Bioware, players are given the choice to experience the warzone with their actual in-game characters or roll a new character for the trial.

The Operation Terror from Beyond, the planet Makeb and the new playable species the Cathar will not be available during Gamescom. However, these and other upcoming additions to SWTOR will feature in a trailer to be showcased by Bioware at Gamescom.
